Enterprise systems are software systems that provide core services used across the institution and on which other applications often are dependent. For example, student information systems (SIS) provide the ultimate official record of a student's academic achievement. Usually, there is only one of them that is considered "official," although there are often shadow systems that replicate parts of the information maintained in the institutional SIS.
