Lawrence Stedman received his PhD in mathematics from the Australian National University. For 10 years he worked in various Australian Commonwealth government departments, including five years managing research granting programs. Since 1995 he has been principal policy adviser in the Chancellery at Queensland University of Technology, located in Brisbane, Australia.
