George Watson is an associate dean in the College of Arts and Science and Unidel Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware (UD). He was named 1998 Delaware Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Watson co-founded UD's Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education, which promotes the reform of undergraduate education through faculty development and course design, the application of active learning strategies, and the effective use of instructional technology. The Institute's efforts to promote problem-based learning were recognized with TIAA-CREF's 1999 Theodore M. Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence for Faculty Development to Enhance Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.

Watson's primary research area is experimental condensed matter physics, with an emphasis on new optical materials.
