As director of Education for North America at Compaq Computer Corporation, Gary A. Staunch is responsible for marketing Compaq products to public and private educational institutions throughout the United States. Staunch leads the strategic planning, marketing, and communication efforts to identify and promote the products, solutions and services that best meet the needs of K-12 and higher education customers. Staunch was named to his current position in June, 1998.

With over 13 years of management experience in high-tech industry, Staunch brings to Compaq extensive expertise in marketing PC products to education. Staunch joined Compaq after 17 years with IBM Corporation where his most recent position was business segment executive, Education for IBM Personal Computer Company. In that role, Staunch developed and implemented a go-to-market strategy for personal computer sales in the education marketplaces through two-tier distribution channels. Previously, as national sales manager/channel manager for K-12 Education, he was responsible for national sales and the development, implementation and on-going support of the national K-12 Education Remarketer program for IBM. Staunch held other managerial positions during his tenure at IBM in the areas of sales, marketing, and training.

Originally from California, Staunch has a bachelor's degree in pre-law with a business concentration from the University of the Pacific.
