Gary Gatien, a member of the staff of the University of Michigan chief information officer, specializes in market research and issue analysis. He previously worked as a business planner for the Information Technology Division of the University and participated in strategic planning. Gatien is the project manager and lead writer for the CIO Web site; the author, editor, and project manager of the University's "Profile of IT at the University of Michigan"; and the author of recent faculty and student surveys.

Before coming to the University, Gatien was involved in many marketing and publications initiatives for private research and technology companies. He focused on collecting customer needs and requirements and helping technology providers understand how to incorporate these into their products and services.

Gatien has a BA in political science from the University of Michigan and an MA in English from Western State College of Colorado. He is a member of the American Association of Higher Education and the Society of College and University Planning.
