Carmel McNaught
Associate Professor and Head of Professional Development in Learning Technology Services
RMIT University

Carmel McNaught is professor of learning enhancement at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was formerly the head of professional development in Learning Technology Services at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). She has a BSc (hons), a DipEd, MEd (Monash), and a PhD in assessing the effects that the linguistic distance between Zulu and English have on students' learning of science from the University of Natal.

McNaught has had 28 years of experience in teaching and research in higher education in six universities in Australia and southern Africa. She integrates her staff development program with her work as an educational designer and evaluator in specific projects where staff use communication and information technologies. She has published extensively in this area. Another field of her research involves looking at relationships between academics' beliefs about teaching and learning and their design and use of computers in teaching and learning. She has over 170 academic publications.
